Washburn Gallery

Brad Washburn was a renowned mountaineer, explorer, mapmaker, author and photographer whose work helped shape our understanding of mountain landscapes around the world. Among his most celebrated achievements are the aerial photographs he captured of New Hampshire's White Mountains in 1937. Combining artistic vision with geographic precision, these striking black-and-white images offer a rare perspective on the region's rugged beauty. In 2004, Brad and Barbara Washburn donated the complete collection of 63 original negatives to the Mount Washington Observatory, ensuring their preservation while supporting the Observatory's scientific and educational mission.
